Oktoberfest Legend: Chris Blake, Australia
With a big “Ein Prosit”, Chris Blake from Australia shares his memories of Oktoberfest in Munich.
How many times have you been to Oktoberfest?
I’ve been once with Thirsty Swagman in 2013. I plan on doing it all again of course.
How would you describe your Oktoberfest experience?
I’ve always loved a bit of drunken rowdiness so knew I’d be right at home at Oktoberfest! And I was not disappointed! Within an hour of getting there the tents were full, the beer was flowing and the traditional German music was setting the tone for what was going to be an epic 2 days! 48 hours later, I was still amazed at the incredible atmosphere, awesome people, great food… and that delicious BEER!! I was already planning my next Oktoberfest before I’d shaken the hangover of the first!
What’s your favourite thing about the festival?
Easily the atmosphere in the tents once everyone has a belly full of steins. There is something about belting out power ballads with 10,000 other beer lovers from all over the world!
What would you tell someone who’s never been to Oktoberfest and is thinking about going?
Definitely book with a tour agency to ensure you get good (preferably close) accommodation, and table reservation within the tents.
Your favourite beer tent / ride / food?
Hofbräu tent was good for big numbers however the atmosphere in the Shottenhamel tent even early in the day was incredible. My favourite food was the half chickens. I want more half chickens!
Anything else you’d like to say about this epic event?
I regret not paying more for a proper leiderhousen outfit. If you’re going to dress up, do it properly. Plus learn a few courtesies in Deutsch, it goes a long way.
