When to attend Oktoberfest 2027
If you’re wondering when the best time to actually attend the Oktoberfest 2027 festival, you have a few decisions to make. (This is what the beer’s for.) Here are a few things you’ll need to consider during your Oktoberfest 2027 planning:
Should you go at the beginning or at the end? Are you hoping to attend either the opening or closing ceremony? Both are epic events and worth their weight in schnitzel.
On the first day of Oktoberfest at noon, the opening ceremony takes place inside the Schottenhamel tent. The Lord Mayor of Munich taps the first keg and shouts, “O’Zapft Is!” (That’s the equivalent of him waving a green flag on a race track.) This marks the official start of Oktoberfest and essentially releases the beer from the taps. Now get to prosting or get the hell out of the way.
On the final night of the festival, the Oktoberfest closing ceremony takes place inside the Hacker-Pschorr tent. Another incredible sight to behold, this one involves 10,000 of your newest friends all singing along together and waving their sparklers in the dimmed lighting of the beer tent. It’s a beautiful way to end the festival and a fantastic reminder that you survived!

Weekends vs. Weekdays – Not including the opening and closing days at Oktoberfest, Fridays and Saturdays are the toughest times to find empty space inside a beer tent. But if this is when you have to visit for Oktoberfest 2027, just know it’s possible but only if you get there before the festival opens and you can keep your bum planted on a bench as long as you can swing it.
During the week (and during the day) is going to be your best bet for easily finding a seat in a beer tent. You can even sleep in some if you want, but only a little bit; we don’t want to be wasting precious drinking hours, now do we? (No, the answer is ‘No.’)
Special Events – Oktoberfest 2027 will offer all the amazing signature events Oktoberfest is known for like the costume parade, family days, traditional Bavarian performances, and much more.

What to Budget for Oktoberfest 2027
What you need to budget for attending Oktoberfest 2027 all depends on how much you plan to consume—beer, food, fun and games, souvenirs. Getting into the festival (and the beer tents) is 100% free, but at some point you’re going to have to eat, drink, and maybe shoot a crossbow.
A liter of beer will cost you around €16 (not incl. tip), give or take a little depending on which tent you’re in. Official Oktoberfest 2027 beer prices will be announced a few months before the festival.
A liter of water and other non-alcoholic beverages cost almost as much. (The saddest part of that being that there are people drinking non-alcoholic beverages at Oktoberfest!) There really isn’t a recommended amount to bring with you, just remember that, regardless of what you plan to spend, make sure you bring cash, cash, and more cash (as opposed to plastic, plastic, and more plastic).
For Oktoberfest 2027, you’ll also need to budget for:
Oktoberfest food – Prices and food options vary at each tent but most cost between €10 (small snacks) and €40 (for a good meal). The Oktoberfest-famous half-chicken typically costs around €17.
Entertainment – If you’re the kind of person who thinks carnival-type rides during a beer festival is a good idea, this applies to you. (Kudos, my friend!) The rides will cost you around a few euros each and possibly a little dignity as well.
Souvenirs – Like it or not, someone in your group is going home with a dancing chicken hat. Otherwise, souvenirs start at just a couple of euros for small magnets and such, and work their way up to “how big a feather should I get for my hat?” expensive.
What to wear for Oktoberfest 2027
Traditional Bavarian clothing is where it’s at for Oktoberfest (and every other day of the year, if you ask us.)
For the ladies, a Bavarian dirndl. That includes a white blouse, knee-length (or longer) dress, apron, and comfy shoes.
For the guys, lederhosen. That includes a white or checkered button-up shirt, knee socks, leather trousers, and comfy shoes. If you want to go all out, grab your Alpine hat as well.

There’s quite a bit more involved in planning your Oktoberfest outfits—unwritten rules, accessories, hair styles, and what do you mean it matters where I tie my apron bow? So click that link to get the full lowdown on all things push-up.
How to get to Oktoberfest in Munich
The first thing you should know about how to get to Oktoberfest in Munich is DO. NOT. DRIVE. THERE. Just don’t. There’s literally no parking and how would you even get home after [insert # of liters here]?
The Theresienwiese (where the festival takes place) is a short walk from the Hauptbahnhof, Muinich’s main train station, and an even shorter walk from the Theresienwiese stop on the U-bahn. If that all looks like gibberish to you, taking a taxi is always an option.
You can find a handy interactive map and details in our Munich Oktoberfest Guide.
What will the weather be like during Oktoberfest?
You mean you don’t like surprises? Well, here’s a little secret… part of the reason Oktoberfest was moved from October to September is because the weather is better at that time.
Even so, you can really never tell. Some years it’s chilly, some years it’s rainy, and some years the sky is blue and the sun is shining and we’re not just talking about the inside of the Hacker-Pschorr tent.
This page gives you a good idea of what to expect in Munich as far as annual temperatures and precipitation is concerned in September and October.
FAOQs – Frequently Asked Oktoberfest Questions
Do I need a reservation for the beer tents? No, you don’t need a reservation but it obviously doesn’t hurt to have one. (Luckily, we can help with beer tent tickets and reservations!) If you attend Oktoberfest 2027 on a weekday, finding space in a tent shouldn’t be a problem. Nights and weekends are much harder but not impossible. Have no fear; beer is near!
When do they start building the tents? Beer tent construction (yes, they tear them down and build them anew every year!) starts about 75 days before the festival.
Where are the restrooms? All of the large beer tents have their own restrooms inside with plenty of stalls and swiftly moving lines. Outside the tents, look for the giant Cupids and follow their arrows to the nearest restroom.
Can I smoke in the beer tents? That’s a hard NO. There’s a strict no smoking policy inside the beer tents but each one has its own designated smoking area outside, usually near the rear.
Will I get fined and/or arrested and/or publicly shamed if I try to steal a glass mug from a beer tent? Abso-freaking-lutely.
