Oktoberfest Legend: Jimmy Mitchell, Scotland
A big hello from Jimmy Mitchell in Scotland, who recounts his Oktoberfest experience.
My pals and I have just been on our 5th visit this year, travelling regularly from Bonny Scotland (Falkirk to be specific).
It started as a stag trip in 2009 when 8 of us travelled, then a return visit in 2012 with 6 of us. We’ve been back every year since, and in 2013 a group of 12 of us travelled, 6 in 2014, and 5 this year. Starting off, we, as tourists, spent most of our time in Hoffbrau – what a party! In recent years we’ve been turning our attention to tents like Schottenhamel, Löwenbräu, Schützen-Festzelt and Bräurosl.
The locals are all brilliant fun and most love 5-6 kilted Scotsmen joining their table – we have made many friends over the years.
And this is the beauty of Oktoberfest; new friends. Nowhere in the world is there the same atmosphere. 6 million people over the course of 2 weeks, all with one aim: to have a great time! I tell everyone I know that they must, MUST go to Oktoberfest, and I guarantee that if you go once, you will return for a second and third visit. You can’t know what the experience is like until you see it for yourself.
The beer and the food are awesome. Paulaner and Augustiner are my favourite. And the smell of the food as you walk along the festival grounds and into the tents; the cinnamon, chicken, sausage, fish (and it has to be pork knuckle for me).
Anyone still to experience it, you just must go to Oktoberfest. I repeat, you must go to Oktoberfest.
Prost!
Jimmy (and the boys)
