Party On at These 5 Essential Reeperbahn Bars in Hamburg
Trust us: Hamburg’s nightlife scene is the stuff of legends. And nowhere is this more apparent than in the Reeperbahn, a street and entertainment district in the St. Pauli quarter of Germany’s second-largest city. Yes, it’s the city’s major red-light district — but without Reeperbahn bars and clubs, the Beatles would never have become super famous.
Whether you’re squeamish when you see a nude painting or can’t wait to knock back a pint until 4 o’clock in the morning, don’t fear the Reeper(bahn): we’ve got you covered. Here are five essential Reeperbahn bars where you can party in Hamburg.
Essential Reeperbahn Bars in Hamburg
StrandPauli
A beach in the middle of Hamburg?! StrandPauli is one of those places that may seem counterintuitive at first, but in reality makes absolute perfect sense. Because, really, who wouldn’t want to soak in some sunshine with a drink in hand when you’re freezing your arse off in the winter? (Fear not: StrandPauli is well and alive in the summertime too.) Recline in a deck chair, squish that sand between your toes, and a sip on a cold brewski or mojito while noshing on nachos or currywurst. There’s even gooey, cheesy fondue during the winter season at StrandPauli — just another reason why it’s one of our favorite Reeperbahn bars. We’re sold: sittin’ on the docks of the Elbe River has never looked so good.

Zum Silbersack
Zum Silbersack is nothing short of an institution in Hamburg. This venerated Reeperbahn bar in St. Pauli has been packing itself to the gills with rambunctious partiers since 1949. In fact, the kneipe, or pub, is so beloved that when co-founder Erna Thomsen died after over sixty years behind the bar, regulars felt a profound sense of loss. Zum Silbersack lives on, however, with its warm camaraderie, cheap Astra beer, and old-school vibes.

Clouds – Heaven’s Bar & Kitchen
For those desiring a classier vibe for their night on the town, head on up to Clouds – Heaven’s Bar & Kitchen. Located on the top floor of a 105-metre tower — that’s roughly 344.5 feet for those of us who aren’t on the metric system — this Reeperbahn bar also happens to be Hamburg’s highest. Try the “Violet” cocktail, which contains Illusionist gin, lillet blanc, lavender bitters, lime juice, and Clouds sugar for 15 euro. Pro tip: this is one of few places in the area with a dress code, so consider starting your night here before you lose your left shoe. (Hey, given the epic nightlife scene in Hamburg, it could happen.)

Lehmitz
Open since 1954, this essential Reeperbahn bar has a 40-metre long U-shaped counter that’s also used as a stage for live performances. (You never know if you’ll see your drink or a musician up on the bar next.) In short, if you’re the “dance on tables, Coyote Ugly-style” type, you’ll be right at home here. Come for the bier; stay for the raucous people-watching and rock music.

3 Zimmer Wohnung
We’re betting that some of the best nights of your (partying) life have occurred in a cozy apartment — whether you’re a wee college freshman or a 30-something adult. If that’s your jam, you’ll love 3 Zimmer Wohnung, one of the coolest Reeperbahn bars around — not least of which because it’s built like a 3-bedroom apartment. Order a drink from the bar in the kitchen and sit on one of the sofas located throughout. Or, in the words of one Yelp reviewer, “When did you last sit on a stove while conversing with someone on a washing machine? Exactly.” Plus, there’s even a Playstation in the bedroom. #Winning!
